30 Day Lipstick Challenge: Day 18 Watermelon Soda

Hey Grimms 🙂

Thanks for all the love and support you all have shown me since announcing my pregnancy! You all made my day <

I guess my new goal should be to finish this lipstick challenge before the baby is born! Only 12 more days left on the challenge so I might actually make it.

Today’s lipstick is brought to you by Jeffree Star  Cosmetics. It’s a beautiful matte liquid lipstick and it’s color (as the young kids say) is popping. This shade is called Watermelon Soda and I have to say the name fits it perfectly.

Watermelon Soda is vibrant! This shade comes from Jeffree’s summer collection (2016 edition) so it’s meant to be fun and summery. The first time I wore it I have to admit it was out of my comfort zone. In fact it was months after I first tried it that I tried it again! Initially I was just afraid it didn’t look good on me.

This is exactly why it takkes me so long to do a review though. First impressions can’t be taken as gospel. This lipstick is proof of that. After I got over the first shock and tried it again I fell in love! While at first I wasn’t sure now I absolutely adore how it looks on my skin tone.

I wear this when I’m feeling bold. This shade really grabs your attention! I’ve never worn it to work although I think I could. Mostly I’ve worn it out and about for lunch dates and canoeing even!

I hope you all enjoyed this. I’m sorry to say that this was a limited time only shade for last year’s summer collection. If your heart is set on buying this shade may the makeup gods be with you because I don’t know how you’ll find this!

I hope you can though because I think it’s awesome ❤

Ulta Mini Haul: Hello Mally

Grimms ❤

I hope you are all enjoying this wonderful Saturday. I will actually be enjoying my nieces dance recital today and I’m pretty pumped! I always wanted to do dance as a kid, specifically ballet. It’s never too late though! I bet I could find an adult class or something.

Today’s post is an Ulta Mini Haul posts. I like writing these for you all for two reasons. One it gives you an idea of what’s to come on GrimmGirl even though I’m forever backlogged at least you know eventually these reviews will be coming. Two, I think it’s nice to see people’s staple products. What are the things people buy over and over again? You know what I mean?

I think you get a better feel for the type of products people really like that way. I mean I can review something and be like, “Yeah, that was pretty cool,” but the real test comes when I run out of it. Do I feel like I immediately need to go replace it or am I more like, “meh”.

Inquiring minds need to know.

So with this haul you will see some of the things I consider “must haves” for my makeup needs.

Real Techniques Beauty Blenders

I have tried other beauty blenders but I always have these on hand and have yet found a type that I like better! You can find these blenders all over my bathroom! I need them in constant stock.

Mally’s Must Have Collection Box

This is a completely new find. I will admit I had never even heard of this brand before but they’re cruelty free all the way through and my usual brands have been dropping like flies so I’ve been trying to branch out. Sad news for my vegan fans though, this line is not a vegan line. Since I’m branching out I liked the idea of a collection box or what the brand considers their “must haves”.

I mean if I don’t like any of the products that they feel are their top ones than this won’t be the brand for me. This collection box comes with their Evercolor Face Defender (sets your makeup), Shadow Stick Extra in Burnished Bronze (eyeshadow stick), Volumizing Mascara, and H3 Lip Gloss in Pink Daisy.

I’ll admit I’m not usually an eyeshadow stick sort of girl but I’m excited to try it out!

Juice Beauty Cleansing Milk

Super pumped about this new purchase. I’ve been trying to find a replacement for my makeup remover ever since I had to let go of my Urban Decay Meltdown remove. As you all may recall I tried PUR’s Melt Away makeup remover and while it did the job I am more of a lotion then an oil fan. So when I found this at Ulta I knew I had to give it a try.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Pomade (Granite)

Another staple of mine! One of my favorite ways to do my brows so I need to have this in constant stock, I’ll rock an eyebrow pencil but the pomade is my favorite. Also of course it is in Granite because that’s the darkest color they have and I find it perfect for my skin tone and hair color.

Viva la ceja!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Duo Brush #14

You’ve got to have a brow brush if you are using pomade! I have in the past used a brow brush from the It Ulta series but I’m not overly attached to it. So when I saw this brow bush in the store I thought, “Eh… why not?”

Mally Ultimate Performance See the Light Concealer

Another brand new product to try! I always have dark circles under my eyes. In general I have trouble sleeping and that just gets worse when I’m stressed so a good under eye concealer keeps me from looking like a zombie. The problem is I haven’t been able to find one that I’m totally in love with. Hopefully this will be the game changer!

I’m always excited to try out new products! I hope to have some reviews coming to you soon although as I mentioned before I’m pretty backlogged so I wouldn’t except reviews on these specific products to happen right away. The problem is I keep buying more makeup before I get caught up on my backlogged reviews!

That’s pretty much how I am with everything on this site though so we really can’t be to surprised! Look at my manga, anime, and otome backlog… Don’t even get me started on the work I still need to do in my kdrama section!

I hope you all enjoy your weekends and let me know what products you’re hoping I review soon!

30 Day Lipstick Challenge: Day 16 Deception

As God is my witness…

I will finish this Lipstick Challenge!
We are on “Day” 16 and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Seriously with all of the selfies I take on Instagram you’d think this would be a done deal. However never underestimate my ability to simply put things off. I will always rise to the challenge.

Today’s lipstick is brought to you by Nine Three Beauty! It’s a product that I haven’t reviewed on GrimmGirl yet, but I desperately need too. Not only do I need to add more Nine Three Beauty to the site but this is actually a really cool color!

I’m not sure if this picture does this color justice but it is a chocolate brown with a green/purple sheen to it! Does that sound a little weird? It might but I promise you it is very cool. Once again I can’t speak enough on the gratification you can get makeup wise by thinking a little outside of the box and trying something new.

I really enjoy Nine Three Beauty’s Deception Lip color. It’s uniqueness isn’t completely over the top so it’s one of those cool colors you can wear anywhere. You can be fun will being professional. If you’re someone that is a little too nervous to try something super bold a lipstick like this can be a really great compromise.

I hope you enjoy this color and it gives you something new to look for. You sadly cannot buy this exact color from Nine Three Beauty but I will provide the link below so you can check out some of their other products!

Winky Lux and Their Flower Balm… Is it GrimmGirl Approved?

Beauty Grimms

Looks like I got at least one thing off of my April Wish List for the month! Hurray for Winky Lux and their Flower Balm. So the big question is will the product live up to they hype? As always I will provide a brief description of the company’s product, then I will go over the cons/pros, and give my final thoughts on the matter.

Enjoy the ride Grimms!

“Bestselling lip stain! This balm stain applies on clear then reacts with your skin’s pH levels, uniquely creating the perfect shade of pink lips just for you. Each Flower Balm contains a real chrysanthemum in the color of your choice. Not to mention, it’s coconut scented, giving it an aroma so enticing you’ll want to wear it every day” –Winky Lux

April Wish List Winky Lux

I always give this as a con just to put it out there but for me personally it isn’t a deal breaker. That being said Winky Lux products are only available online. You cannot walk into a makeup store and purchase these products. You have to buy them online!

Since this is a lip stain I have noticed that it doesn’t necessarily apply evenly. What I mean by that his that the shade of pink looks lighter and darker across my lips without constant coverage. Honestly I feel like that’s just the cross you bear when you rock a lip stain.

You will have to reapply multiple times a day. This stain is not long lasting so keep that in mind. Don’t forget to bring this along in your purse or whatever because you are going to need to reapply regularly. There is no getting around that.

Also this product is $14 so to be fair this isn’t the cheapest lip stain you will ever purchase.

First off I would just like to give it up for the packaging. Honestly I really do feel like that is important. I mean I’m paying $14 for this lip stain! I want a show and Winky Lux doesn’t disappoint. Not only does it come in these adorable little pill capsule like lipstick tubes they also each have their own little chrysanthemum embedded in the clear lipsticks.

That’s freaking classy kids.

They smell like coconut goodness. I’ve mentioned this before but I’m pretty smell sensitive. I do not appreciate overpowering smells at all. These smell great and it’s not a strong smell. It’s light and perfect. I greatly appreciate it.

Watching your lips turn pink is also pretty cool. I’m a sucker for a magic trick! I even tried this on my daughter and her shade of pink did look different than mine. All though that could be because her skin tone is a little lighter than mine, I’m wondering if that is how they are able to make each person’s pink shade look different. Or is it really the whole PH business? I guess I’ll never know.

This lip stain is really moisturizing. Three cheers to the power of coconut. It’s like having a really nice chapstick but with the bonus power of adding a little color to your lips.

A very soft, pink color ❤ Perfect for a more natural look.

Final Thoughts

I’m really happy with this purchase!

Normal I go for a more full coverage look but even I have days where I just want to take it easy on my makeup look. This is also good for those work occasions where it wouldn’t necessarily be appropriate to whip out my black lipstick.

As far as the price goes while this isn’t the cheapest lip stain you will every buy it also isn’t the most expensive. Winky Lux can take my $14 for their Flower Balm product because it does exactly what it says it’s going to do. Is it an incredibly long lasting product? No. However that isn’t what it is advertising or claiming to do.

I will be buying this product again for sure and I have no problem ordering online. Bonus side is the fact that you get free shipping on orders $30 and above. Free International Shipping as well on orders at or above $75 so my overseas friends can take advantage of that.

I’m a makeup collect so there is a part of me that wants one of these in each of their different flower colors! All and all this was well worth the money.

Well you know how I feel so let me know what you think! Does this sound like a product you would be interested in? If you’ve already tried it before make sure that you give your impressions below as well.

❤ ❤ ❤ Until next time Grimms

I do not own the photo of the Flower Balm

Let’s Talk About The French Wardrobe

Grimms ❤

I hope you are all enjoying your weekend. I know I am! If you don’t know already I personally live in a somewhat cold climate. If you are from America you know the Midwest tends to get a wee bit chilly in the winter months. By that I mean expect snow and below zero temperatures from at LEAST November to March… Sometimes April… Sometimes May.

This weekend is beautiful for us though, what with temperatures in the 60’s 😀 We’re in heaven right now! It also means that our beloved winter is ending, spring is coming into full swing, and summer is right around the corner. With the weather changing it usually means… New wardrobe.

Now here’s the thing about buying clothing, we need to be careful when we make purchases. The clothing industry is rife with exploitation and our buying habits can support that. Just like when we buy makeup our purchases can support cruelty by being tested on animals and our clothing choices can support cruelty by hurting humans.

This becomes very noticeable when we look at fast fashion. Just a reminder but fast fashion is, “A contempory term used by fashion retailers to express that designs move from catwalk quickly to capture current fashion trends.”

In order to make things quicker and get them into stores as fast as possible garments are made cheaper and the workers are paid so much less than minimum wage it’s crazy.

The only way a company can make a shirt for five dollars is if they are paying their workers poverty wages and have the knowledge that you will be back. How do they know you’ll be back? Because that five dollar shirt is only going to last a few weeks (if that) before it tears or gets some sort of hole in it and you’ll waltz back in for a new shirt. Not only will you end up spending more money, which will contribute to sweatshop factories, but that shirt will get thrown away which is killing the environment.

So what can we do to help?

First off… Let’s avoid this.

Buy second hand or high-end from a company with transparency. The company should feel comfortable discussing how much they play their garment workers and things like that. We can also do our best to keep our wardrobes small. What I mean is that it’s not good to constantly buy new items and throw out old ones to pollute our environment.

Clothing ends up in landfills and trust me… It takes quite some time to break down. The amount of tossed aside clothing is an environmental nightmare.

So today I want to talk about something I try to live by which is the idea of a French Wardrobe. If you have never heard of this it basically means that you limit your wardrobe. This way you are able to keep your clothing waste down and also save money, which gives you the ability to buy a high-end product when necessary.

So first off you need to make sure that you have a good assortment of basics. Basics are things like shirts (without graphics) or other things you cannot live without and can wear over and over again. Basically when you think basic you need to think timeless. Items that even 5 years from now you can still incorporate in your wardrobe without people thinking, “Whoa. Acid wash, lightening patterned jeans, with bows… That’s so two seasons ago.”

Okay I exaggerate on what becomes trendy but you get what I mean!

You get your basics and then you build your sense of style around them. Each season you allow yourself to buy up to five items to either replace or add to your wardrobe. This cuts down on clothing costs and the amount of clothes you are willing to toss out. It also means that you have to put in a lot of thought as to what you are going to buy.

If you know you only get five things to add to your summer wardrobe you are going to think before you buy so that you don’t have any regrets. These items you choose do not have to be basics but can also build around your basics. For instance my basic skinny jeans are going to look different if I pair them with heels and a blazer versus my chucks and an anime graphic tee. You want basics that you can build around but you also want stand out pieces that make your wardrobe your own.

You need to use your five items for all of that! So be careful with your choices.

With that in mind I guarantee you are going to think long and hard about buying those shorts that you only kind of like even though they are such a good price. I’m going to have to through in a snarky eye roll for that thought because let’s get real. It doesn’t matter how good the price is if you don’t even really like it! If you limit your ability to just get something different next week you are going to be more strict in making sure that you love the items you are buying.

I mean how often do we buy something we kind of like at the store only to have it pushed back in our closet where it never sees the light of day. Who cares if it was only $15 if we never even wear it, am I right? That’s basically just $15 straight down the drain that we could’ve saved for something we actually adore.

Let’s also avoid this scenario :p

Since spring is here I have already started purchasing my five items! I’ll be doing a post later this week, showing off my wares for the new season so look forward to that! If you are interested in learning more about what a French Wardrobe would look like check out this link by WhoWhatWear. I find it to be very well written! You can also always ask any questions below

Don’t forget to look out for my post on some of my thrifty finds this week. Let me know in the comments below what your first impressions of the French Wardrobe are. Do you think it is something you could start doing?

Until tomorrow Grimms ❤

Is Stila Cruelty-Free? Turns Out… YES!

Hello, Hello.

I am particularly pumped about this since I feel all of the brands that I know and love have been leaving me due to animal testing parent companies. Yes I’m talking to you Too Faced! This has been a rough year for me makeup wise so now that I finally have some good news I am completely thrilled.

If you haven’t heard, now you have! Stila has joined the cruelty-free makeup world! You do not know how pumped I am to hear this. Stila officially does not test finished products on animal, they do not test any of their ingredients on animals, they do not have any third party animal testing, they do not test on animals where required by law, they are not sold in mainland China, and they DO NOT have a parent company! Which means by default their parent company does not test on animals.

Can we just have a moment of silence for the fact that there is another makeup brand to grace GrimmGirl?

I have never bought Stila makeup so I’m really hoping that their products are great. After I heard the news I had to pick up a few items to test out. If you watched my livestream you heard me mention them, but I’ll say it again.

I have purchased the Stila HD Beauty Balm, Stila HUGE Mascara, and Stila Stay All Day Eyeliner. Please stay tuned for future reviews! Once again I am so happy to finally have some good news on GrimmGirl! Cruelty-Free Beauty Lovers REJOICE! We’ve got a new makeup brand to covet!

For more information on Stila’s jump into the cruelty-free world check out CrueltyFreeKitty’s awesome post on the subject. Until they let me know your reaction to Stila’s wonderful news

Below is a list of makeup products used in the video. Anything marked with a * means that while it is cruelty free the brands parent company is not.
