Welcome back Grimms!
I hope you’re okay with another First Impressions post. I’ve been on a roll lately. Today we’ll be diving into Gintama. I saw a passionate post on Twitter about why this show is a must watch and I’ve got to say I was moved. I’ve scrolled past this anime before but in the back of my mind I’ve always thought I should watch it. This person’s heartfelt recommendation was the push I needed!
“In a world where aliens have invaded Edo Period Japan, skyscrapers, trains and motor bikes have replaced the simple life of Earth inhabitants. One man however, still carries the soul of a samurai, Gintoki Sakata, otherwise known as Yorozuya Gin-san. As reckless as he is, Gintoki carries his own resolve and is ready to take on any challenge with his fellow companions.” -Crunchyroll
So the first two episodes are a part one and two sort of deal at least here in the US. In Japan where it originally aired it was a one hour special. Because of this I’m counting one and two as one episode as it was originally intended and then I watched episodes three and four.
Does that make sense or are you way confused? Hopefully you’re on board because we’re moving forward!
This one hour special basically just throws you in there. I didn’t have a clue what was going on or who these people were. I did enjoy how Gintoki likes to break the fourth wall a lot. It gave me Deadpool vibes and he is my favorite anti-hero! I may have been a bit confused on a few things but the show did capture my attention. It was just hilarious so I couldn’t wait to watch the next episode. Even now I’m like, “Gaaaaahhhh! Hurry up with this post so I can watch more of this show!”
You have to admit that’s a pretty good sign.
Episodes 3 & 4 are the ones that really caught my attention though. Basically their background episodes on how the team got together and I found them both really engaging. Gintama gets a gold star for humor. I did hear through that as the story goes on it gets more serious. Eeek! I’m going to get anxiety from this I swear because I already don’t want anything to happen to them. Can’t Gintoki just continue reading JUMP in peace. Why should Shinpachi have to deal with anymore burdens besides the crumbling dojo? My poor Kagura just wants to enjoy life eating delicious food, just let her eat! I just can’t stomach the idea of anything happening to cause them pain. They’re all just so cute.
Well that I’m off to watch more Gintama. Apparently in the next episode they accidentally deliver an explosive package and are mistaken for terrorist. It’s going to be hilarious I just know it. You guys I have to see what happens!!!
Bye for now ❤
