First Impressions O7 Ghost: The Future of Painful Thoughts

Welcome back. Today we’re taking a look at the anime 07 Ghost. For those of you that are new I always watch the first three episodes of an anime and then make a decision to continue watching or drop it into no man’s land. I was on Twitter the other day and noticed some people talking about whether it’s okay to drop an anime or if you should finish it until the end. That’s such a weird debate to me! I will never understand why people force themselves to watch something allll the way to the end when they know they don’t like. Are they just anime masochists?

Y’all it’s simply beyond me. I have no regrets when I drop something!

So will 07 Ghosts make the list of anime shows I feel deserve my attention until the very end? Or will I kick it to the curb?

O7 Ghost

“Teased unmercifully for his past as an orphan and a slave, Teito has only his best friend Mikage and his mastery of the magical art of Zaiphon to ease his days at the elite Barsburg Academy.” -Crunchyroll

In the first three episodes we meet our protagonist Teito Klein and learn that he’s a bit of a mystery. Apparently he used to be a slave in a conquered territory but now he’s at a military school awaiting his graduation. The problem is Teito doesn’t actually remember life before he entered school. The only reason he knows he was a slave is because of his brand tattoo.

While life seems pretty grim we see a ray of sunshine in Teito’s best friend. Mikage doesn’t care about Teito’s past the way everyone else does he just wants to be there for him. I absolutely love a good bromance! When a show has a very positive foundation in friendship it really does raise it in my books.

After the graduation exam Teito meets someone who sparks his first memory and the rage of it all sends him into attack mode! With his best friends life on the line Mikage does everything he can to save Teito, but what will those consequences lead to for him? Now that Teito’s memory is coming back he’s not sure if he even believes the history he’s been told. Who is he really and what’s the true story about how the war was won.

You know what they say, history is written by the winners…

Final Thoughts

O7 Ghosts has my attention! Things are certainly getting interesting. I’ve never really heard anyone talk about this anime before so I don’t have any preconceived notions which is actually kind of nice. I’m able to just roll with things and see what happens. I think I’ll probably watch this until the end. The show feels like it has potential to really stand out. So far there aren’t any characters that drive me up the wall. In fact they all seem really interesting! I was surprised when within the first episode Teito leaves his school though. From the description I assumed this would really encapsulate his life there so that really threw me for a loop. In a good way! I’m excited to see what happens next.

I guess it’s only downfall is that so far it seems to be a very male driven show, which is fine but if I’m honest I do love a kickass female character! I’m only three episodes in though so only time will tell.

What about you Grimms? Ever heard of this anime before?

  1. I quite like this but the ending isn’t resolved in the anime which makes it hard to recommend and limits the point in rewatching. Still, I enjoyed what there was of this anime and there’s some great moments throughout.

    1. I’m actually okay with that as long as it’s pretty good throughout. Wherever this happens I just end up reading the manga so that I know the final ending. But I get what you mean about not being able to recommend it to everyone since not everyone would be interested in reading the series to get a proper ending. Sucks that this show didn’t get a s2 bc I’m really quite enjoying it!

  2. Haha..well..I’m one of those people that doesn’t drop an anime when I start watching it. Simply because I have had it happen many times that a show starts off rather bad, only to grow into something I end up loving very much 😊 As for this one, I haven’t heard about this yet, but it sounds interesting. Seeing the comment from Karandi here though, makes be a little bit sad. I always don’t like it when a show is unresolved in the end. sounds interesting enough, so I might give it a go😊

    1. Bahaha that’s too funny! I really can’t πŸ˜‚ If I have a luke warm reaction to it then I’ll usually watch longer but I’ve I hate it or am super bored than I just can’t go forward. I usually just end up nitpicking it even more! Off the top of my head I can only think of one anime that I started off a little meh about in the beginning but then absolutely loved and that’s Bleach. I thought it was a cute show in the beginning but didn’t really get the hype until the very end of s1 when Rukia’s brother shows up and we go into the rescue arc. After that I was like BLEACH4LIFE! But I think the only reason I made it that far is bc I didn’t flat out hate it or was super bored in the beginning.

Honestly you should do a post on anime that have surprised you! That would be so much fun to read ❀

      1. haha…well, there have been several shows where that happened to me to be honest lol, but you are right, that isn’t such a bad idea πŸ€”πŸ€” I might get to work on a post like that and release it soon 😊
Bleach is an anime I haven’t yet seen but probably never will simply because of the sheer amount of episodes and knowing I will probably never finish it in my lifetime πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I did see the live action Bleach movie and honestly thought that one was pretty good 😊

      2. I would def read that post! Lol I could never do it since I always quit but a post like this would inspire me and a few others I bet to give some anime another try! I was so behind on Bleach too but I was in a resale store and they had the first and second season on sale for $15 so I was like I guess I could try it. Famous last words! Once it got to the rescue arc I was hooked! I swear I didn’t watch anything but Bleach for months πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

      3. Lol, well I never say never anyways, so who knows maybe at some point I will get hooked on Bleach as well, and you won’t see me here anymore for at least a year πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
Well…I guess that I should get to work on that post then lol πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  3. I actually reviewed the manga recently! The anime is not bad, but it’s definitely incomplete. And uh… there’s barely any female characters haha. But if you’re interested in it so far, you should watch it all, and decide if you like it enough to read the manga πŸ˜€

    1. πŸ˜‚ I’m noticing that very strongly at this point! I’m about half way through and the only women to show up have been the nuns! Oh and the evil woman spirit who turned some guy into a kor. Basically they’ve all been throw away characters. Still this show has my attention and a friend above mentioned that it doesn’t really have a solid ending in the anime so I’m fairly certain I’ll pick the manga up!
