First Impressions: Food Wars

Hey Grimms!

If you follow me on Twitter than you know I recently started this show. If you don’t follow me get on it.

I’m hilarious.

If you’re new to GrimmGirl let me just quickly fill you in on what my first impressions posts are about. I watch the first five episodes of a show (at least) and based on my first impressions make a decision on whether I’ll continue the show or not.

“Shokugeki no Soma (Food Wars) centers on Yukihira Soma, a middle school student who is determined to surpass his father’s culinary skills. One day, his father decided to close down their family restaurant and hone his skills in Europe. Before leaving he enrolls Soma in an elite culinary school that is extremely difficult to enter with a graduation rate of only 10 percent. Will Soma be able to improve his skills, or will the kitchen prove to be too hot?” -Crunchyroll

Food Tasting Cutaway Scenes

Food Wars2
Damn you Soma and your crazed experiments!

What am I even witnessing here? What the heck are these foodgasm noises and is that a SQUID GROPING SCENE??!!! MY EEEEEEYYYYYEEEESSSS! Seriously this is not a show to watch if you (like me) have a five year old kiddo running around. Thank the Heavens I decided to watch the first episode after she went to bed. Of course she did come out during a rather orgasmic food scene which I tried to pause only to realize I paused it on someones buttcheeks…

I tried fam.

Here’s The Thing About Me and Food

Food Wars3
Like for real I was just trying to sit here and eat my damn soup.

I don’t find food to be “sexy”. Like you know how some people are turned on by for example being feed chocolate covered strawberries? That’s a negative for me. You try to feed me something and you might lose a finger. Girl I’m hungry. I have zero time for sensual sounds, mouth smacking, or licking whatever off of fingers. I am here to EAT. So these close up scenes of everyone’s mouths and chewing noises…

Like why are your naked butts all over my delicious meals?

Joichiro Yukihira

Food Wars4
You can come over anytime sir. Cook, take your shirt off, whatever makes you feel at home.

He could get it.

That’s really all I have to say about that. The man is fine and deserves a spinoff show covering his travels about Europe or whatever. I don’t even care what the show is about because I’m watching it.

Clearly I Should Be a Chef

Food Wars5
But for real my Potato Cheese Soup and Mac and Cheese Bake SLAYS.

They take food so seriously in this show and I am living for it. You know what it is? It is so cool to see anybody truly passionate about something. I mean they are all so dedicated to their craft. I can completely respect that. It makes the show interesting to watch and also kind of spurs your inner chef.

All of the UMANI!

I am going to become a cooking GOD! Right after this next episode.

Ya’ll I’m invested.

I will be watching this show and all the seasons to come! Also for all of you Dub haters out there just know I LOOOOOVVVE the Dub version of this show. All of the English voice actors so far have been great. The Japanese cast was also great (I watched two episodes of both) but I’m so in love with the voices of the English cast ❤

Well look forward to more Food Wars talk in the near future. Sorry I have kept you all waiting for so long!

Until Next Time Stay Classy Grimms.

    1. Thanks! Motherhood is kicking my butt lol my son and daughter are total polar opposites 😂 he literally has to be held 24/7 haha I’m holding him now as I type! So my new goal is to have one post scheduled a week and build from there. Luckily even though I haven’t written them down I’ve been watching/reading lots of stuff so there is some really fun stuff to look forward to 😉 I see some My Hero Academia in next week’s future!

      1. Haha…well I am really glad to hear (erm read) that you are doing well 😊 I can imagine that motherhood is tough for sure 😀
Looking forward to that My Hero Academia post! 😊

  1. Funny that you mention this show now, as I too have just started watching the dub (granted I’ve seen it all subbed before), and YES, it’s a pretty good Sentai dub! Looking forward to what you think of the series as it goes along!

    1. So good! I think like with Erina for example its nice to watch the dub because you can tell she has that rich valley girl accent which is so fitting for her character but that sort of nuance gets lost in the sub bc I don’t understand different stats accents within the Japanese language. This is def a show I’ll watch all the way through!

    1. Yeeees! You get my life! More Joichiro that’s all I have to say!

I’m an so so SO glad I didn’t decide to watch this with my daughter 😂 I was actually thinking about it bc I’m always looking for anime with dubs we can watch together since she cant read yet lol. So our options are limited. So when I saw this was subbed I thought we could watch it together. I had zero experience about this show and was like meh they cook how bad could it be. Thank heavens I spur of the moment decided to watch the first episode on my own!

      1. LOL. The could be potential fit a kid cooking anyone show too though …
I suspect that a kid friendly one would do well if presented in the right way. Like an anime version of cooking mama.
