It’s high time I put some FMA on GrimmGirl. There isn’t nearly enough on here. I recently rewatched the first season so I thought I’d share some thoughts on the matter.
Fullmetal Alchemist follows two brothers who through alchemy have suffered horrible consequences. Ed (the elder brother) has lost his arm and leg while Al (the younger brother) has lost his entire body. There sin? Trying to bring back someone from the dead. Their only hope? Find the Philosopher’s Stone before anyone else does.
I love this show! I really don’t know anyone who hates it. I think the great thing about it is it truly has a very solid storyline. I also feel like it had realistic expectations for the characters.
Ed and Al have both been through some really rough things and have had to grow up pretty quick as a result of this. With that said at the end of the day they are still kids. Their impulsive (especially Ed) at times and they have trouble seeing the gray areas of things.
Trust me there are a lot of gray areas in this show. So while we’re watching Ed and Al try to track down the Philosopher’s Stone we’re also watching them grow brothers and individuals.
It’s up to them to figure out their own moral code because the State isn’t going to provide that moral compass. With no sign of their dad in sight they might as well be orphans.
While Ed and Al are the main characters the other characters are phenomenal as well. Winfrey, Roy, and Hughes each help develop Ed and Al’s characters while enhances and adding to the plot as well.
While there is some fighting in this show this isn’t like Naruto where you see it every episode. Fighting isn’t the focus or even the point of this show. What it is about is the story if that makes sense. Ed and Al’s story. How they influence each other a bc the rest of the characters. Their search for The Philosopher’s Stone encompasses then but quickly begins to engulf those around them.
With equivalent exchange being the law of alchemy Ed and Al will have to decide what exactly they are willing to exchange or more to the point sacrifice.
I always as will always recommend this anime. It’s just an all around great show. From the characters, animation, and plot it’s just tops. I laugh and cry during this show. I mean they deal with some dark stuff!
But it isn’t all rain clouds. There is humor when needed and I think that’s important. The show doesn’t drag you down with dark themes.
Well if you haven’t watched this I hope you give it a chance! Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
