One Piece S1: Let the Journey Begin

Hola Grimms!

I have finally decided to start the journey that is One Piece. There are about a zillion episodes and it’s still ongoing so when I say journey I’m not messing around. In fact the sheer volume of episodes is part of the reason I didn’t want to start it. You can get sucked I Β with something like this at your fingertips.

Plus it’s a a commitment. With the first season having 61 episodes alone it didn’t give you a whole lot of time to watch anything else. I have so many people though that are huge fans I knew eventually I’d have to give it a shot.

One Piece1

“Monkey D. Luffy refuses to let anyone or anything stand in the way of his quest to become the king of all pirates. With a course charted for the treacherous waters of the Grand Line and beyond, this us one captain who’ll never give up until he’s claimed the greatest treasure on Earth: the Legendary One Piece!” -Crunchyroll

Well you get the gist of the show. So what did I think? Well it was worthy enough to watch 61 episodes in order to finish season one. I feel like that says a lot right there.

I’ll admit that going in to this show the animation wasn’t my favorite but honestly it started to grow on me. It actually really fits the show and it’s style.

The first season is basically what you would expect in all seriousness. It’s basically dedicated to Luffy meandering about finding people to be apart of his crew.

This involves some side stories and backstories on the characters which is what you’d expect. You start to also learn a bit about everyone’s personality. I for one am a fan of Zoro. Master of the three sword style is getting stuff done.

One Piece2
Zoro is totally awesome ❀

I also (of course) dig Luffy. I like how even though he’s a good guy he sticks to his pirate ways. I mean he’s not going to run about protecting people from pirates and bandits but he follows his own code of ethics. I think that’s what really makes him a pirate.

He isn’t like one of the marines who is going to follow other people’s orders our set of rules. He’s going to do things his way so that no matter what he’s content with his choices. Which is how each of the crew members are and that’s what makes them loveable pirates.

I would say that the arch that interested me the most was the Arlong arch. I think what I enjoyed the most about it was how badass the crew was. Also I’m not going to lie I don’t know if I’m just super emotional because I’m pregnant (I’m pretty emotional) but this arch made me cry.

Cool fights scenes and emotional turmoil coming right at you.

Final Thoughts

I enjoyed One Piece. I’m not going to say that I’m totally in love with the show. It isn’t something I feel compelled to binge on but I do enjoy the humor and majority of the story lines.

So with that I can say that I’ll continue this show. I also do feel that if you enjoy adventure type fighting anime you’ll probably get a kick out of this. I personally look forward to the next season because I feel like now that the characters are established we’ll get into some more interesting fight scenes and what not.

Any of you seen One Piece before? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

I do not own these pictures.Β

  1. I LOVE One Piece so much. It makes me feel things lol really, I’m on episode 564 and so far, it hasn’t disappointed me at all. Of course there were some seasons that I liked more than others but it is so worth watching it. I’m really happy you liked the first season!

  3. I haven’t seen this one, but just like Bleach and Naruto it’s just the sheer amount of episodes that so far have not made me want to watch this 😊 Glad you are enjoying though, and as always great post! 😊

  4. I started watching One Piece, a while back, intending to catch up eventually…

Had a short break and forgot which episode I left off *facepalm*

Then I remembered I had a MyAnimeList but I haven’t been in the mood for Shonen for a year and a half now XD

I wish you the very best on this long endeavour. Marathon in my steed, young one.

  5. Please watch all one piece episodes. It really is the best long running anime. I’m up to date with manga as well.
Not trying to be a loser but I recently started a blog about Monkey D Luffy. It would mean a lot if you took a look at it.

    1. I only have a few more episodes of season two to go! So I’m still trucking along on it. Hopefully the review won’t be to far in the future. Thanks for the link drop πŸ™‚ I’ll make sure to check you out!

  6. I also don’t feel like watching one piece at first. Aside from its long episodes, the graphics are just too… i don’t know how to call it really. But as the anime goes on, it gets awesome and awesome.
I also love the part with Arlong because it’s really emotional, I assure you it’s not just you. HAHA!
And another coincidence I also love Zoro. Omg! I think I just met someone with the same taste like I do. HAHA!

    1. Giiiirrrrrl Zoro is my MVP always ❀ He's so freaking cool! And I do have to give credit where credit is due the graphics get better as the series goes on. Damn this Arlong arc though even after all this time it is still on of my favorites because of the emotion!
