Is Smashbox Cruelty Free? Turns Out… Not Exactly

Yo Grimms!

It appears another makeup company has joined the cruelty free rank… Or have they?

I have to say that when I first heard that Smashbox announced that they were now cruelty free I was over the moon. There are a lot of Smashbox products I would just love to try out! However I’ve been burned by “cruelty free” companies before and if there is one thing that I have learned it’s to always read the fine print!

As you all known I only use cruelty free products and on top of that the parent companies of the cruelty free brand must also be cruelty free. This is of course a topic of opinion and choice. Some people are fine as long as the makeup itself is cruelty free, some people (like me) require it throughout the organization. It’s up for interpretation but since it is my philosophy to hold makeup companies and their parent company to the same standard it effects the products you see on GrimmGirl.

When all the makeup brands you want to try are owned by animal testing companies…

So don’t expect to see any Smashbox reviews on GrimmGirl anytime soon. Smashbox continues to be owned by Estee Lauder and that company continues to test on animals. For this reason I personally do not consider Smashbox to be 100% cruelty free. While their specific makeup line was not tested on animals the money that you spend on their makeup still goes to Estee Lauder and again, they still test on animals.

Hopefully this clears up any confusion on whether or not you will begin seeing Smashbox products on GrimmGirl. Unfortunately you will not but here’s to hoping Estee Lauder jumps on the cruelty free train soon!

Peace and Love Grimms ❤
