Raise Your Voices For OWLS!!!

Oho!

Big news Grimms! Today I am supper proud to introduce a brand new organization to the anime community called O.W.L.S (Otaku Warriors for Liberty and Self-Respect). This group came into effect after Kausus (Otaku Gamer Zone) decided he wanted to come up with a group to help people from all parts of the community feel supported.

Right now the world is a pretty crazy place and unfortunately it can also be fairly hateful. This can be especially true when it comes to the online community. As you all know I strive very heard to keep GrimmGirl as friendly and respectful to everyone regardless of race, ethnicity, religious values, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

When Kausus came up with this idea to form a group within the anime community to promote the acceptance of everyone using anime/manga I was of course right on board! We should never underestimate the power of voices to promote change and acceptance within our world.

Our official statement is that, “We are a group that promotes the acceptance of all individuals regardless of race, sexual orientation, gender religion, and disabilities and highlights the importance of respect and kindness to every human being.”

While our official motto is, β€œFree to be ME”.

I think that the word acceptance is very important to our statement. We want to create a community that is accepting not just tolerant. There is a big difference between accepting another person’s differences rather than simple tolerating them. I think that if we move towards trying to be more accepting than tolerate we will have the opportunity to make this community a lot more inclusive and fun.

By accepting each other’s differences we are able to learn more about each other as people. You can tolerate someone and never speak to them. By trying to accept someone you open the door to conversation. It’s the conversations we have with the people around us that open the door for friendships and learning.

The way we will promote this type of learning and understanding is that the members of O.W.L.S will periodically hold blog tours showcasing various topics. For example our very first blog tour will begin in January and will focus on the topic of β€œDisruptors”.

Our goal as bloggers is to use anime or manga to discuss disruptors in a more positive light. Characters who have disrupted a system in order to create change in their worlds. I love the idea of this topic because I think that there are many of us that can sometimes feel powerless in situations but we have to remember that we can create change in our lives!

However how we go about that change is very important. I’m excited to take a look at anime characters and how they have handled these situations. There are a lot of members within O.W.L.S community who will be joining this blog tour and each of us have chosen a separate anime to discuss this topic.

I hope you are all excited to embark on this journey with me! I also hope you enjoy the new logo on GrimmGirl supporting O.W.L.S ❀

I am also including a list of our current members and their positions. I am also including links to their websites incase you want to check them out ahead of time before our official blog tour.

Finally if you would like to join O.W.L.S please let me know! Joining O.W.L.S is a commitment but I would be more than happy to have more members on board. You can always email me with questions or get a hold of me on Twitter for a quicker response.

      1. I went to that page and read the rules and I only really align with the middle one. The one that about otaku ((in Japan) a young person who is obsessed with computers or particular aspects of popular culture to the detriment of their social skills) went whoosh … so far, far, far above my pretty little blonde-haired, blue-eyed head that I got a crick on my neck from watching it go. And as for the third rule – what’s that all about? Are y’all coming to York, UK any time soon? πŸ™‚
Anyway, I’m must be interested, because I’m still hanging our with you – right?

      2. Hahaha basically your blog has to deal with some aspect of pop culture. We use the term otaku as more of a term of endearment 😜 Basically we all have something that were super passionate about and we want to use that to discuss some hard to discuss topics. So for example my otaku things that I use for owl blog tours is anime and manga. Our blog tours has to do with the posts we schedule for the month. All members are required to participate in a few throughout the year but we hold “tours” each month. So you can choose a month that works best for you or you can participate in each one! This month was our “Colors” tour and we had 16 members participate. Each member wrote a post that fit our Colors prompt and somehow fit into the otaku scheme. We then link our post to the person who posts before and after us. That way readers can tour around the different perspectives! All though we hope to do a panel at a con we haven’t gone anywhere yet! https://grimmgirl.com/2017/04/14/5389/ to give you a better idea of how a tour would work here’s my blog post for this month’s colors tour! You can check out how I linked to other bloggers and how they expressed this prompt in a different way! Let me know if you still think you’d be interested in joining πŸ˜€

      3. I think that I am very much interested in joining now that you’ve expressed it in that way (and gone into so much lovely detail whilst in the throes). Yes, yes, and thice yes – sign me up. You’ll have to be quick while the blood still flows. πŸ™‚
Just one thing – my blog deals with me, mainly. I’m not sure if I’m really part of the pop-culture. I mean, I like pop, but I wouldn’t say it’s my mainstay in life.
So, yeah – tell me where to press my bloody thumb – I’m in. πŸ™‚
