What do you eat?
It’s very weird to me but after I became a vegetarian I have gotten that question a lot. It’s really funny to me because I swear once an omnivore hears I’m a herbivore they seem to forget that they’re not a strict carnivore! To put it simply I eat everything you eat minus the meat. No human diet is made primarily of meat so seriously what we eat isn’t going to be that different I swear.
That being said I thought it would be interesting to share some of the vegan and vegetarian recipes I enjoy. Who knows you omnivores might come across something that you would enjoy! My husband is not a vegetarian or vegan so I can say that whatever I post on here has been approved by an omnivore as delicious.
Today’s post is going to be all about brownies… VEGAN brownies of course. I like to go vegan whenever I can but I’m not perfect about it especially when I go out to eat so I consider myself a vegetarian with vegan tendencies 😀 I tend to stay away from dairy products but I still eat eggs and honey. Hope that explanation helps show where I’m going from in my eating choices. Moving on, one of my favorite vegan cookbooks is Mayim’s Vegan Table by Mayim Bialik with Dr. Jay Gordan.
You may recognize Mayim from The Big Bang Theory if you didn’t know she is a fellow animal lover! She’s a vegan and campaigns for animal rights. If you didn’t already love her I’m sure you do now.
One of my favorite dessert recipes from her book is her Cocoa Brownies. They are so delicious! They really easy to make, they taste great, and I kid you not they are the gooiest brownies I have ever had the pleasure of eating. They were a big hit in my house! My husband also suggested I should try this recipe but add some peanut butter next time. Yum! I have to admit I’m going to give it a shot; everything is better with peanut butter.
So what makes these brownies vegan? The absence of eggs of course! Some of you may be scratching your heads wondering how brownies can be made without eggs and I’m hear to tell you that not only can they be but they’re delicious. The substitute ingredient may surprise you as well. It’s applesauce instead of eggs!
Who would’ve thought right? Not only does the applesauce make these cocoa brownies taste delicious I am convinced their responsible for its deliciously gooey nature. If you love brownies I highly suggest you give the brownies in Mayim’s vegan cookbook a shot. You might just find your new favorite brownie recipe ❤
