Anime Quotes Shouldn’t Be Underestimated.

People!

I am getting so close to finishing this anime challenge I can almost taste it. Do you know what it tastes like? Victory. We are on Day (Week) 28 and after this post I will only have two more days left to go. I’m not going to lie; I’m starting to fill accomplished.

Today’s challenge is to name my favorite quote from any anime character. I bet you are all wondering where I’m going to go with this but for me it was obvious. This quote comes from Durarara, which I think might surprise the people who know me best. I’m sure a lot of people were expecting something from either Cowboy Bebop or Naruto/Naruto Shippuden seeing as those are two of my favorite shows and they both house a wealth of amazing quotes.

However this quote from Durarara relates to me more than any quote I’ve ever heard in an anime. It meant a lot to me when I heard it and still does. For me it’s a reminder. This quote comes from none other than Kadota Kyohei and is one of the most meaningful quotes in relation to my life that I have yet to hear.

“If you wanna run from your past, fine. But whatever you do, don’t run from the present, or worse, your future.”

Durarara quote

Many of my friends and readers on GrimmGirl aren’t aware of this and I won’t go into a lot of detail but growing up was hard for me (to say the least). It took me a long time to become comfortable with myself and because of this I really don’t talking about myself before I turned 18. I don’t enjoy my past and I probably never will.

This could have caused me to go down a very dark and different path then the one I’m on now, and for a while it did, but I decided that I could make a different present and future for myself.

So when I heard Kyohei say this it was a reminder to myself. I can run from my past and I probably always will but I better not run from my present or future or I will always be essentially living in my past experiences. I don’t want to ever do that. So this quote is my favorite because it’s something that I live by!

This is another reason I don’t think anime is given nearly enough credit. The characters and storylines can really delve into some deep issues and cause us to face things we need to. Their words motivate us, make us laugh and cry, and above all keep us coming back for more.

So what are some of your favorite quotes?

  1. I love this quote you used. I can relate to this. I don’t have a serious, dark past like the anime but there are times I just want to forget my past. I try to avoid going in depth of it and I just want to ignore. I really need to finish Durarara!!.

    1. You really do! This quote really stuck with me. I think a lot of people can relate to it because we all make mistakes. We all have things we want to forget but we have to stay positive and move forward 😀

  2. Woa, that quote is amazing. I’ve never watched this, but now I want. This quote really resonates with me because my past has been a lot of darkness, but I’ve come with terms to it and I can talk about it nowadays. I guess levelling up to 25 hasn’t been all just in numbers but also mentality & maturity.
Durarara goes to my pile… You anime enabler! ლ(́◉◞౪◟◉‵ლ)

    1. I am an enabler 🙂 you won’t regret this show. It starts out slow but it’s a necessary slow to set up all the storylines that will crossover in the end. It’s great, I still need to watch s2 tho.

  3. “It’s not about if I can. I’m doing this because I want to. I decided long ago that I’m going to be King of the Pirates. If I have to die fighting for that, then I die.”

  4. I totally feel for the quote you used! As someone else who has gone through a lot growing up, this quote also resonates with me on a deep level.
It reminds me of my personal favorite quote from anime:
“I understand now that the circumstances of one’s birth are irrelevant. It is what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are.”
-Mewtwo, Pokemon – The First Movie

    1. I love that quote by Mewtwo as well! I didn’t appreciate how meaningful it was when I was a kid but now that I’m older I can. People do not give that franchise enough credit because there are def some gems of knowledge throughout the series. Thanks for stopping by and I look forward to checking your blog out 😀
