Full seed ahead with this anime challenge, I’m getting closer and closer to finally be done! Today marks “Day” 24 of this challenge and I’m going to be discussing an anime moment that shocked me the most.
I decided to go with my most recent shock because honestly I’m still so blown away by it that I couldn’t seem to think of anything else. Recently I started to watch Gurren Lagann and this is where my most shocking moment comes from. If you have never seen this show before please don’t read any further!
I will eventually be doing a review on this (spoiler free) once I finish the season but for this challenge I will have to give away a huge point in the plotl. I would hate to ruin that for you so don’t read further if you haven’t seen the show!
Okay moving forward I need to give you a smidge of background just incase it’s been awhile since you’ve seen though show. Or you’re a crazy person who hasn’t seen the show but insists on knowing my most shocking moment. Either way the show is about a kid named Simon who lives underground.

He meets a man by the name of Kamina who self styles himself as Simon’s older brother. Together they discover a Gunman and make their way to the service of the world where they discover war being waged between humans and beastmen. Kamina urges Simon forward to fight the beastmen and through the adventures they begin forming their own team, a little fighting village of their own full of friends who help to make them stronger.
Kamina and Simon’s bond is incredible deep and while many people believe that it is Kamina that is the backbone of their ragtag army, Kamina maintains that it is Simon that gives him strength and helps him to push forward. Simon looks up to Kamina and wants to live up to his expectations. He strives to be like his older brother while Kamina maintains that Simon is brilliant on his own and just needs to be himself.
The chemistry between them is great because you are able to see how they both need each other to fight at full potential. Their combining Gurren Lagann is a perfect example of that. So you have to believe me when I say that the moment that was incredible shocking to me was the moment Kamina died.
WAAAAAAHHHHH!!!! What the damn hell?! I seriously was in disbelief. I didn’t believe for a second he could be dead, I mean what sense does that make? Those two need each other. How could this story move forward without him? I was completely blown away when this happened and honestly I’m still trying to wrap my head around it.
Also I totally cried… I might still be crying. Also I kind of hate the world right now and I’m in total denial hoping that Kamina is going to pop up when Simon needs him most, because that’s what he does.

What are some of your most shocking anime moments? Comment below.
I do not own any of the images above
That part shocked me the most. Great post. I seen this anime and Kamina made feel like I should be a better man.I hated how the anime creators decided to kill him off. I guess they wanted to kill him to help the protagonist get stronger and move on.
I have one anime moment that shocked me the most is during the Marineford War/ Paramount War arc. I don’t want to spoil but there is one part that really hit me hard. 😦

I still can’t get over it. I literally cried. Then I cried the next two episodes watching Yoko and Simon dealing with his death. It was heartbreaking. I haven’t see that anime but another anime that really shocked me was Fairy Yail. Do you ever watch that show?

I haven’t seen Fairy Tail yet but I heard some fans cried in moments. Yeah, I agree. Simon and Yoko dealt with the loss very harsh.

I do like fantasy. The anime looks awesome but I am too lazy to start it. I need to get motivated.

I honestly considered dropping it in the beginning. It didn’t really start to interest me until around the 5th episode. I will this though after watching the series I think even knowing this you’d still enjoy the show. It’s kind of one of those things where Kamina ends up being the tip of the iceberg. There’s ends up being a lot more surprises in store!

Ohohoho~ See? Thought so. The first episodes were unimpressive, right. I think it was around the time that I started watching Gundam and I became more interested in Gundam than this one. That’s why I dropped it. But I know plenty of people who love this show so I’ll pick it up again and see if I’ll love it too. Thanks for the reminder about this series.
