*Since the original publication of this post I have learned that NYX is owned by L’Oreal. L’Oreal is a company that test their beauty products. To learn more about what this means for NYX Costmetics and why I will no longer review their products on GrimmGirl please read IS NYX Cosmetics Cruelty Free? Turns Out… Not Exactly.
Welcome back or if this is your first time reading a post on GrimmGirl just welcome in general! Today I’m reviewing setting spray. It isn’t exactly a cosmetic (even though I’m putting it in that category) in the sense of it being a lipstick or eye shadow, but I feel like it’s a pretty darn important thing to have in your makeup bag.
If you’re not familiar with setting spray it is basically a tool used to keep your makeup in place for as long as physically possible. It helps to avoid makeup moving around during the day due to sweat and unpredictable weather. Trust me you want to have this in your life.
Today I want to talk about NYX Cosmetic setting spay Dewy Finish. NYX describes their product as:
“A lightweight, water based setting spray that keeps your makeup looking dewy and A-M-A-Z-I-N-G through any kind of weather.”
Let’s get down to the cons and pros and see if this product lives up to its’ description.
It’s not a very big bottle of setting spray. Listen up, if I’m wearing makeup than you can bet your ass I’m wearing setting spray. So the fact that this only comes in a roughly 2 fluid ounce bottle is a little disappointing. Not only do I use it frequently but also I’ll admit I Jeffree Star that setting spray like no other. Translation? I like to take a short setting spray shower after my makeup application.
Another thing I’m not a huge fan of is how it sprays. Instead of being a beautiful mist it has the tendency to sort of shoot at me. This could be the issue with this particular bottle or it could be that the formula in general is a smidge off causing it not to mist as it should. Since this is my first time using this setting spray it could very well be that it’s only a problem with the bottle. Still I think it is important to mention.
Big pro coming in here… Hello money-saver! This setting spray is only $8.00 so if you’re buying on a budget than this is your setting spray steal of the day.
Even if you are not looking to safe money this is a setting spray worth looking into. Let me tell you this right now. This setting spray lives up to its product description in being lightweight and keeps your makeup on point in any type of weather. If you follow my Instagram or Twitter pages than you know that I recently went on vacation to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This was the only setting spray I used during my entire vacation.
If you’re not familiar with the weather in Baton Rouge let me clue you in. Not only is it frickin’ hot but it is incredible humid. You sweet and the air around you is so thick with water it feels (as my husband put it) like you can chew it. Now if you go down during the winter months you wont have this problem, but during July? Get ready for the humidity, heat, and of course rain.
Baton Rouge threw every type of summer weather you could think of and my makeup held up. Through sweat, rain, humidity, and heat my makeup prevailed! If that doesn’t pass the test I don’t know what does. On top of all of that it was only $8.00, money well spent I would say.
Finally it does deliver on its’ dewy finish. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about a “dewy” finish but I have to say I really like it! It makes me feel like a mystical fairy. It also helps produce a fresh makeup look all day. It’s really the bees’ knees.
My advice? Go try it for yourself. You can’t go wrong for $8.00 and it really does deliver on its promises. While I really wish it came in a bigger bottle that is no reason not to try it out at all. As for it’s misting issues? Small potatoes considering it holds out against the Louisiana heat. If you have never tried setting spray and want to give it a shot I would try this one. That way if you really don’t like it you only spent $8.00. Personal opinion though, I think you’ll love it.
If you want to check it out for yourself this product is available in most Ulta and Sephora stores and you can also purchase it online from their website. I’ve posted the link below!
Have you every tried this setting spray? If so what did you think? Did you have the same issues with the misting? Did you find this review helpful? Make sure to let me know your thoughts in the comment section below.
