*Since the original publication of this post I have learned that NYX is owned by L’Oreal. L’Oreal is a company that test their beauty products. To learn more about what this means for NYX Costmetics and why I will no longer review their products on GrimmGirl please read IS NYX Cosmetics Cruelty Free? Turns Out… Not Exactly.
Review time! Review time! If you can’t tell I’m really excited about this next product and I decided to review them together. The reason for this is simple, it’s because this combo is my go to formula when I’m pressed for time and still want my skin to like even and unblemished.
NYX Cosmetics BB Cream and CC cream is just about my favorite thing in my makeup kit right now. I will rave about this stuff all day! Together they create the perfect base for my foundation and alone it still helps to make my skin look great. As much as I do love this product I will admit I can through down a con. Really it’s only one con but a con is a con my dears. So let’s get into it.
As much as I love both of these products I do have a con and honestly it’s a pretty big con to me. Diversity. These two are not diverse products. What I mean by this is that as great as this product is not everyone is going to be able to try it because of it’s lack of diverse skin tone matches.
This is honestly a big problem in makeup across the bored and it really needs to stop. I’m not sure why this is but you can see for yourself with many popular makeup brands. The darker the skin tone the less products companies are offering for you. Case in point NYX Cosmetics choices for their BB Cream and CC Cream.
For their BB Cream you can choose between three shades: Nude, Natural, and Golden. I can get by with golden but anybody darker than me wouldn’t. I think that’s pretty insane because I’m not that dark and in essence NYX Cosmetics is alienating an entire demographic from their product.
Their CC Cream comes in what looks like a bit more variety but in actuality is the same in terms of availability. Basically the darker you are the less likely these products are going to match your skin tone and help with color correcting. That’s such a bummer to me and can be so easily remedied. Offer products for all skin tones. It’s as simple as that.
Thanks to public efforts and attention through social media many companies are starting to make a conscious effort to diversify their products. They are realizing that they need to be more aware of all the skin tones the world is made of and creating products to represent that. I hope NYX Cosmetics realizes that as well and starts adding more shades to their cosmetic line. We can help make that change happen by letting them know that we want more shades.
Here’s exactly why this company would do well to add more shades, people would love it! This product does exactly what it says it will. It even skin tone, diminishes redness, and leaves skin looking natural and healthy even by itself.
When I’m in a rush I use this combination on my face in place of foundation and I think it looks great. I also use these products in as a primer replacement sometimes and that also works awesome and helps hold my foundation in check. If you recall from my Summer Look and Wedding Look NYX Cosmetics CC Cream and BB Cream is exactly what I used under my foundation.
Not only does this product work but it’s easy on the wallet. The BB Cream will run you $13.00 and the CC Cream is going to be $14.00. I don’t think this is bad at all considering that these products will last forever.
Big problem that soaks up money all the time is the fact that people use way more than they need. They come in smaller bottles for a reason, because you don’t need that much. I literally use about a pea squeeze of each and it covers my entire face. If you’re using a quarter size of your BB Cream or CC Cream you’re basically throwing money out the window.
This is a great cruelty-free product that delivers on what it’s meant to do and I think many people would love it. Sadly the only people who have the chance to buy this product are the people who fit into NYX Cosmetics limited skin tone range. I hope that changes in the future and NYX becomes more diverse because they do have a great product on their hands.

Also remember the voices we have as consumers. I want everyone regardless of skin tone to try this product because I do believe that it is a good one. In order to make that happen I will be voicing my concern to NYX Cosmetics about the lack of diversity for this product. I’m not angry, I just think sometimes make up companies need to be reminded that skin tone doesn’t end at tan.
Have you tried this product before? If so what did you think?
Also have you noticed a lack of diversity in make up products? I think there has been but that things are starting to change for the better. These changes are happening because people are talking about, so let’s talk!
